Getting Your Body Measurements

After the body measurements are taken, the readings will automatically display on the LCD screen. An icon will light up for each of the results being displayed.

The BF-684W Body Fat and Body Water Monitor, uses Multi-Frequency Bioelectric Impedance Analysis (BIA) technology, a clinically validated FDA cleared method of determining body fat. BIA sends a low current through the body, it passes freely through the fluids contained in muscle tissue and in blood, but encounters difficulty when passing through fat tissue, which contains little water. By using the impedance reading along with gender, age, height and weight the scale can quickly and reliably calculate body fat and total body water. Tanita Body Fat Monitors provide vital in-depth information that allows you to accurately observe the impact of a diet and fitness program.

Monitoring body fat with the BF-684W, is an essential tool for precisely measuring your body’s inner health. Maintaining healthy body fat levels has far more value than simply calculating your body mass index (BMI). Proper hydration is essential for life. Maintaining a healthy body water % improves overall health, keeps you feeling energized and operating at a peak performance. Average range for a healthy adult female is 45 – 60% and for a male 50% – 65%.

Body Fat Readings

The BF-684W automatically compare your body fat percentage reading to the built-in Healthy Body Fat Range chart. After you measurement is calculated, a black bar will flash along the bottom of the display to show where your reading falls within the Body Fat Range.

Body Water Readings

Body water levels naturally fluctuate throughout the day. The body tends to be dehydrated after a long night sleep and there is also difference in readings due to fluid distribution though out the day. The body water % measurement should act as a guide and should not be used as an absolute. It is important to track long-term changes in the body water % to maintain a consistent healthy body water %.

Note: Total body water % tends to decrease as the body fat % increase. A person with a high % of body fat may fall below the average healthy body water %. When the body looses body fat, the total body water % should gradually increase to the healthy range.
